William H. “Bill” Swartzlander, 94, of Fenelton, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Newhaven Court at Clearview.
Born December 2, 1928, in Fenelton, he was the son of the late Harry A. Swartzlander, Sr. and the late Lela (Sutton) Swartzlander.
Bill was a graduate of Butler High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the US Navy. He was a lifetime member of Fenelton United Methodist Church, where he was the oldest living member. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason with the Victory Lodge # 694 in Butler. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, a member of Happy Hunters Sportsman’s Club in Fenelton, and the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Association. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid archery hunter. He was the PA Deputy Game Warden for 20 years and also taught hunter safety courses in the community. In addition to hunting, Bill was very active with golfing and lawn bowling.
He is survived by five children, Michael W. (Beverly) Swartzlander, Elaine S. Swartzlander, Amy B. Guest, Matthew Swartzlander, and his step-son, Donnie (Kathy) Codding; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Fennell, his second wife, Belva Codding, three brothers, Dale, Dick, and Harry Swartzlander, his sister, Mary Louise Wilmer, his son in law, Michael Crytser, several brothers and sisters in law, one niece and one nephew.
A memorial service to honor the life of Bill will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
