William J. (Bill) Helsel, 67, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 14, 2018 in Key West, FL.
He was born December 22, 1950 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania to the late Frederick Helsel and the late Velda Helsel.
Mr. Helsel was the Tax Collector for Butler Township for the past 15+ years. Mr. Helsel received a Bachelor of Science from Slippery Rock University in May of 1985. While pursuing his CPA license, he worked for the Kroger Grocery Chain. He earned his CPA license in April 1987. Mr. Helsel worked in Public Accounting in Pittsburgh and later for Carbis Walker. He left Carbis Walker to pursue his own business of Tax Preparation and Auditing Local Government Entities. In 1995, he obtained a professional certificate as a Certified Government Financial Manager. He belonged to the following organizations: AICPA, PICPA, and the local BCTCA. He was a Naval Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict.
Mr. Helsel is survived by his wife Linda Helsel, one daughter, Megan Helsel of Alexandria, VA; a number of nieces and nephews; and his beloved Bichons, Rudy and RB whom he cherished. He nicknamed them, “The Boys”. Mr. Helsel loved to travel in the motor home with “The Boys”, and his wife.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Judy Sherwood, and one brother, Dale Helsel.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, 11:00 am at the North Street Christian Church, 220 West North Street Butler, PA, with Pastor Robert C. Huber, officiating. There will be refreshments following the service in the church dining room.
