A barn is considered a total loss following a fire Wednesday in Winfield Township.
The call came into the Butler County 911 Center shortly after 2 p.m. for heavy smoke and fire at a barn in the 300 block of Riemer Road.
Crews from Saxonburg, Buffalo Township, Herman, Sarver, East Butler, Penn Township, and Middlesex were among those arriving on the scene to battle a fully-involved blaze about 50 feet from a house.
Windy conditions also made it difficult for crews to battle the flames.
Firefighters say there were animals inside the barn; it’s believed some did not survive.
A portion of Riemer Road needed to be closed for a time.
The cause of the fire is not known at this point.
