The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is implementing more travel restrictions today for a number of highways in the area.
Restrictions on the PA Turnpike from New Stanton Exit 75 to Breezewood Exit 161 will start at 7 p.m. Thursday (today). Interstate-79 from I-80 to I-90, and I-80 from I-99 to the Ohio border will be restricted beginning at 10 p.m.
Under these Tier 1 restrictions, tractors without trailers, motorcycles, RVs, commercial or school buses are not allowed on the highway.
PennDOT officials say motorists should avoid travel if possible and more restrictions could be added if the forecast changes.
A winter weather advisory has been issued starting at 6 p.m. A mix of wintry weather is expected, as Butler could see rain, freezing rain, and snow through the overnight, before the system moves to just rain early Friday morning.
