Members of the Wolf Administration are bringing awareness to some alarming statistics as part of Teen Driver Safety Week.
A roundtable event was held earlier this week where officials cited one very notable stat about teen driving.
“Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for teens,” PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services Kurt Myers said. “Parents and teachers have an important role to play in helping new drivers establish safe driving habits.”
Over the last four years, PennDOT has found there were over 80,000 crashes involving at least one 16- to 19-year- old; 480 of those accidents resulted in a fatality.
PennDOT says more than 50,000 of the teen-involved crashes included speeding, driver inexperience, and distraction.
