Governor Tom Wolf is urging the state legislature to pass his new election plan that he says will make this year’s election safe and secure.
The state passed major election reform earlier this year that allowed mail-in ballots. Wolf now says those ballots should be counted prior to election day.
“Doing steps like scanning and opening envelopes in advance, will allow [election officials] to start the process of counting ballots early,” Wolf said.
He also added that the vote count wouldn’t be made public, but instead give the election workers more time to count the ballots efficiently.
Other plans Wolf proposed include sending mail-in ballots to voters 28 days prior to the election, opposed to 14; allowing ballots postmarked by election day to be counted even if they arrive past election day; and providing more safety to poll workers.
