After Governor Tom Wolf vetoed the last election package, Republicans in the legislators said they weren’t going to pursue any additional reforms.
But new comments from Wolf suggest he’s open to some form of voter ID. He thinks there could be a reasonable solution that helps identify people who do mail-in voting.
“Act 77 had some voter ID elements in it. You have to put the last four digits of your social security number and your driver license number when you mail in a ballot, that’s voter ID. And I signed that,” Wolf said. “But, if you’re trying to suppress the vote, let me be clear, that’s a non-starter.”
Republicans were taken aback by the shift from Wolf, and criticized his office for not negotiating during the bill’s formation.
The bill will be reintroduced during the fall session according to House Republicans.
