Governor Tom Wolf has officially vetoed an elections reform package.
The largely Republican sponsored bill was panned by the Democrat Wolf as voter suppression. He cited the limiting mail-in ballots, capping early voting, and the reduced voter registration time period as reasons he vetoed.
Wolf did concede that there were elements of the package that he supported.
Representative Seth Grove (R-York) led the efforts on the election reform package issued a statement shortly after Wolf vetoed the bill and said they would seek a voter ID requirement though a ballot amendment.
“As chairman of the House State Government Committee, I will continue to seek solutions to the issues at hand. This will begin with the committee taking up Senate Bill 735 to require voter identification via a constitutional amendment. This will take election reform directly to the people, the majority of whom support the measure, and bypass the executive branch,” Grove said.
Just vetoed House Bill 1300.
I made it clear I wouldn’t sign a bill that creates barriers to voting.
But that’s exactly what this bill does by:

❌ Capping early voting
