The Oakland Athletics took the three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates after a 9-5 victory Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park. The A’s took a 7-0 lead in the first inning. Pirates starting pitcher Roansy Contreras recorded one out before being removed from the game.
Rodolfo Castro hit his sixth home run of the season, and Ke’Bryan Hayes had three of the Pirates nine hits. Oakland had 17 hits.
The Pirates are off today. They host the New York Mets for three games beginning Friday night.
Andrew McCutchen had one hit in Wednesday’s game. He is now two hits shy of reaching 2,000 in his career.
Milwaukee defeated Baltimore 10-2 Wednesday. The Pirates now trail the Brewers by 1-1/2 games.
