North Catholic Girls Win
The North Catholic Girls basketball team won their fourth straight title with a 61-44 win over Southmoreland. It was the 20th championship for the North Catholic girls program—and 9th for head coach Molly Rottman.
The Trojanettes play their first state playoff game Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Kiski High School.
Mars Planets Fall Just Short
It came down to the wire for the Mars Boys Basketball team as a layup at the buzzer rolled out and the Planets fell 52-51 to Laurel highlands in the 5A Championship Friday night.
Laurel Highlands freshman sensation Rodney Gallagher scored 24 points. And Senior Michael Carmody led Mars with 14 points.
The first round of the state playoffs is Friday night for Mars as they play Elizabethtown at Valley High School. Tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
Brookville Defeats Moniteau Girls In D9 Title
The Moniteau girls basketball team came up just shy of winning a District 9 championship as they fell 64-58 to Brookville Friday night.
Haley Pry led the Warriors with 16.
Slippery Rock Girls Come Up Short
Grove City girls basketball claimed the District 10 championship Saturday with a 52-41 win over Slippery Rock.
Slippery Rock does move on to the state tournament. They face Hollidaysburg Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Farrell High School.
Wrestling Champions
The Seneca Valley Raiders had a pair of WPIAL Champions in boys wrestling. Dylan Chappell won the 120 pound finals and Alejandro Herrera-Rondon won the 132 pound title.
