The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the New York Yankees 12-3 last night in Tampa.
Some sloppy play surrounding starting pitcher Bailey Falter’s appearance led to the Yankees scoring three runs in the second inning. Falter pitched into the third inning, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits. He walked two and struck out four. Two of the Pirates top prospects, Bubba Chandler and Hunter Barco, were roughed up for a total of eight runs in their appearances. Pirates starting catcher Joey Bart had two hits and drove in three. He hit his first home run of the pre-season.
The Bucs host the Boston Red Sox today in Bradenton at 1:05pm. Left-hander Andrew Heaney will make his first start with the Pirates. Former Pirate prospect Quinn Priester will start for Boston.
