The Slippery Rock University council of trustees took time at their quarterly business meeting on Friday to say goodbye to the university’s provost.
Philip Way- SRU provost and vice president of academic and student affairs- will leave the school and take a new job as president of Athens State University in Athens, Alabama beginning Aug. 1.
Way was named provost at SRU back in February 2013. In that role, he was responsible for much of the school’s strategic planning efforts. The board of governors then appointed Way to serve at the university’s interim president in July 2017 following the retirement of Cheryl Norton.
Way served in that role until July 2018 when William Behre took office as the university’s 17th president.
Council commended Way for his service to “the people of the commonwealth, Slippery Rock University and most importantly, the students we serve.”
