The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Houston Astros 10-0 Thursday afternoon. The Bucs outscored the Astros 24-2 over the past two games, sending Houston to their first series loss at home since September 2018. The Pirates pounded 14 hits in the game and hit five home runs. Kevin Newman and Jacob Stallings had three hits each. Newman hit his fourth home run of the season, Josh Bell his 22nd, Starling Marte hit his 12th, Corey Dickerson hit his second home run of the year and catcher Jacob Stallings hit his first. Marte scored three times.
Pirates starter Joe Musgrove scattered nine singles, but did not allow a run in his six innings of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out five for his sixth win of the year.
Kevin Newman extended his hitting streak to 17 games, one short of the longest hitting streak in Pirates history for a rookie. Neil Walker had an 18-game hitting streak in 2010. Rennie Stennett did it in 1971. Rookie outfielder Bryan Reynolds had a 17-game hitting streak earlier this season.
The Bucs open a three-game series in Milwaukee tonight at 8:10pm. Chris Archer goes to the mound for the Pirates tonight. WISR airtime is 7:45pm.
