Harmony will hold its 12th annual German-style end-of-year celebration on Tuesday.
‘Silvester’ will feature several afternoon and evening activities including a 5K race; a Christmas tree and wreath-tossing contest; a pork and sauerkraut dinner; screenings of a traditional German comedic short film; plus live music beginning at 2 p.m.
The event is called ‘Silvester’ because Harmony was founded by the Germans and New Year’s Eve is called ‘Silvester’ in Germany. Each year in Harmony, the town celebrates the event on German time, with the ball drop and fireworks happening at 6 p.m.
The event also serves as a year-end fundraising opportunity for the town’s nonprofit museum- the Harmony Museum- and the town’s parks.
