Ronald A Champ, 78, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 23, 2020 at the St. Clair Hospital.
He was born September 9, 1941 in Braddock Hills, Pennsylvania to the late Albert Champ and the late Caroline Betlej Champ.
Ron worked for Karns City High School for 17 years, moving on to Butler Community College for an additional 17 years before retiring in 2007. He was a football and basketball coach for many years at Karns City High School. Ron was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He belonged to the National Education Association, Pennsylvania School Education Association (PSEA), and Pennsylvania Education School Education Retirement Systems (PSERS). Ron served as a Chief Negotiator for Karns City Education Association and also served as a former president of PSEA. He enjoyed doing carpentry, woodworking, drawing and painting.
Ron is survived by his one son, Warren (Kim) Champ of Washington, PA; two daughters, Bethany Champ of Butler, PA, Tammy (Dwight) Boice of Butler, PA; three grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Champ, Jeffrey Champ, Brianne Yusko; two nieces, Kimberly (Mike) Bradford, Lauren (Kevin) Hackett; and two nephews, William (Sharon) Adkins, Russell (Rose) Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Valjean Jeffreys Champ, who he married on November 28, 1964 and who passed away on April 21, 2016; and one sister, Audrey Champ Adkins.
Friends will be received Friday, January 31, 2020, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020, 10:30 am at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 107 Staley Ave., Butler, PA, with Reverend Carmen Schullo, of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and Ron’s grandson, Reverend David Champ, Associate Pastor of Youth Family Ministry at Westfield Presbyterian Church of New Castle, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.
