A military veteran who is currently with the Durham VA Health Care System in North Carolina will soon be the head of VA Butler Healthcare.
Kevin Paul Amick will start in Butler in the next 45-60 days. He will replace interim director Sharon Coyle, who started last June. She took over for Jon Lasell Jr, who served as director for nine months before going back to Texas to take care of his elderly father.
Amick currently serves as the associate medical center director in Durham. In Butler, he will oversee the nearly 700 employees of VA Butler Healthcare who provide care to over 25,000 veterans in Butler, Clarion, Mercer, Lawrence and Armstrong counties.
Amick started with the VA in 2010 and has also served as in various positions with the Hampton VA Medical Center in Virginia as well as in the Navy Hospital Corps.
Amick holds a Bachelor degree in health science from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in health administration and human resources management from Strayer University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The VA Butler Healthcare System also officially named its long-term care facility the Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center. The Bruin native posthumously received the Silver Star after being killed in action in Vietnam.
