Several local children were named winners of Butler Township’s annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
Commissioner Jim Lokhaiser Jr presented trophies to winners in kindergarten through fourth grade during a Butler Township meeting on Monday night.
The school with the highest number of Butler Township students participating was Connoquenessing and Principal Hope Hull was on hand to accept the traveling trophy.
I think this year is a unique year, in the sense that typically we would have a fire truck or fire prevention equipment come out to the students,” Hull said. “But given the situation of COVID this year, we’re not able to have that kind of thing. So this poster contest allows us an opportunity to still experience and learn what fire prevention is all about, and still have a hands on approach to learning.”
This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week was “Serve up Fire Safety in the Kitchen” referring to the fact that many household fires begin in the kitchen.
