Local lawmakers are reacting after Judge Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court by the U.S. Senate.
The Senate approved the confirmation by a vote of 52 to 48 along party lines with Pennsylvania Republican Senator Pat Toomey voting in favor and Democratic Senator Bob Casey voting against.
Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine was the only member of her party to vote against the appointment. An email from Casey claims that the seat was “stolen” due to the election currently underway. Republican Congressman Mike Kelly called Barrett a “champion” for “God-given rights” and thanked President Trump for nominating judges who interpret law as written.
Barrett was sworn in at a White House ceremony shortly after the vote Monday night and fills the seat left vacant following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
