Butler County has a new Veteran of the Year.
LeRoy Bunyan received the annual honor awarded by Butler County Veteran Services.
He served with the Navy and did two cruises on the Mediterranean Sea, one of which was an emergency deployment due ot a commercial aircraft being high jacked to Jordan.
Bunyan spoke at Wednesday’s Veterans Day ceremony.
“We’re here to celebrate veterans courage, their service, and their honor that they gave to us,” Bunyan said. “The freedom that we now have is because they were willing to put everything on the line for us.”
Bunyan is currently an active member of local American Legion Posts 117 and 778—he also played an instrumental role in bringing the Vietnam traveling wall to Butler.
