A year after the first Saturday opening in the history of state firearms deer season, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is inviting hunters to participate in the first Saturday-Sunday opening weekend.
The commission is also rolling out a new regulatory change that allows hunters to attempt to harvest a second deer before tagging the first as long as they have the appropriate tags and no deer is moved before being tagged.
Last year’s Saturday start to rifle deer season resulted in the largest overall deer harvest in the last 15 years with nearly 390,000 during the entire 2019-20 hunting season.
Hunters are reminded to be safe by wearing the required amount of florescent orange material on head, chest, and back as well as wearing a full-body harness while hunting from a tree stand. The statewide general firearms deer season runs through December 4th for antlered deer and December 5th through 12th for antlerless.
