An inmate at the state correctional facility in nearby Mercer County is facing charges following an alleged assault of a corrections officer.
According to the State Police in Mercer, a 57-year-old inmate was being transported to the Sharon Regional Medical Center on November 25th when he allegedly assaulted a corrections officer.
Authorities say that the inmate is accused of kicking the officer’s face and breaking a pair of glasses. Police also say that the suspect made statements that the assault was based on the victim’s Hispanic heritage.
Officials have filed several charges against the inmate, which include Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, and Ethnic Intimidation.
