Gary Gates

Gary Gates, 83, of Penn Township passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020. He was born in Butler on September 18, 1937 to the late William and Mildred Gates. Gary retired from Armco after 41 years. He was an active member of Thorn Creek United Methodist Church. He loved puzzles, bottle collecting, riding on his tractor, and was a member of numerous social clubs. Gary was the loving father of Shellie Matteoni and Jeffrey Gates; brother of Glenna Lou Franko, Rex (Sally) Gates, and Sondra (Richard) Grossman. Gary is also survived by grandchildren Levi and Breanne Gates, Matthew, Micole, and Elizabeth Matteoni. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna (Flick) Gates in 2015, who he was married to for over 57 years and his brother Willis Gates. Friends will be received on Monday, December 21st from 11 AM until 12:30 PM in the SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 NEW CASTLE RD. BUTLER, PA 16001, WWW.SPENCERDGEIBEL.COM. A private prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home. All guests are to adhere to COVID requirements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church.
