Now that Christmas is over, there are several locations in Butler County offering recycling of cut Christmas trees.
Some locations require you to drop off your tree; others will pick up your tree curbside. All services require that your tree is completely free of all decorations and any plastic bag used to transport it.
Recycled Christmas trees can be used in several ways if regulations allow including creating brush piles that provide resting areas for birds.
Recycling Sites include:
-Penn Township behind the Fire Department. Call Penn Township for more detailed information.
-Cranberry Township Residential Curbside Collection. No charge during the weeks of Jan. 4 and Jan. 11 on the customer’s collection day. Cut tree into 4-foot lengths. Bulky item stickers required after Jan. 15.
-Back To Nature (Stirling Landscaping Center): 840 Mercer Road, Butler. Call 724-287-7921 before dropping off. Cost is $3/tree for drop-off until the end of February.
-Slippery Rock Community Park: 320 N. Main St, Slippery Rock. Free drop off through Jan. 9. Drop off site will be clearly marked.
The county recycling department says other communities may have a curbside pickup program for their residents. Call your municipal building for details.
