Local Congressman Glenn “G.T.” Thompson is making a push to bring back whole milk to cafeterias.
Thompson says a federal policy requiring schools to serve skim or one percent milk may be costing the country a generation of milk drinkers.
The Republican also adds that many children find the milk just not that flavorful and therefore get turned off to milk.
Thompson says this bill doesn’t require schools to get rid of the lower fat options—but it would give schools the flexibility to add whole milk to the lunchtime menu.
Whole milk was removed from cafeterias in 2010 due to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act which sought to reduce childhood obesity.
