The Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 Sunday to take two of three games in their season-opening series. Mitch Keller started for the Pirates and took the loss. He allowed three earned runs in three innings. Keller gave up just two hits, but walked four. Colin Moran hit his first home run of the season. Philip Evans started at third base and had three hits.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight. First pitch is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. J.T. Brubaker will start for the Bucs.
Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes was placed in the 10-day Injured List after suffering a hand injury during Saturday’s loss to the Cubs.
Reliever Kyle Crick was brought back to the active roster after missing the start of the season because of the birth of his child. Wil Crowe was sent to the Pirates alternative training site.
