Staff members at Sunnyview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center are calling attention to what they say are conditions that need to improve.
Workers held an informational picket outside the facility Wednesday afternoon to demand more respect for caregivers from owners.
“We can’t even get set schedules so that we know what days we’re working week to week,” Magaret Burk, who has worked at Sunnyview for 35 years, said. “Management laughed at us when we asked. The basic lack of respect makes it impossible to keep staff — people are hired and quit right away. Our seniors are suffering because there just isn’t consistent staff to take care of them.”
Sunnyview is owned by Premier Healthcare management and has experienced over 200 cases of COVID-19 as well as 25 residents deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
More than 100 employees represented by SEIU Healthcare PA are currently negotiating a new contract and would like management to address issues such as staffing shortages and patient care.
