There was a slight increase in the number of traffic deaths last year according to PennDOT.
The latest data shows that 1,129 people died in traffic accidents last year—which is up about six percent compared to 2019.
PennDOT officials say they aren’t sure why fatalities rose last year, especially when the traffic count was down by about 20 percent.
Despite this increase, there has still been a long-term trend in declining traffic deaths.
PennDOT says they are doubling down on driver education methods since 90 percent of crashes are caused by driver behavior.
