A bill authored by a local lawmaker to increase protections for minors and victims of human trafficking is moving forward.
Republican State Representative Marci Mustello’s House Bill 231 strengthens the current law by adding certain prohibited activities to the definition of the crime of unlawful contact with a minor.
Mustello’s legislation would strengthen the ability of police and prosecutors to combat sexual violence and human trafficking in Butler County and throughout the state, giving special attention to children in the foster care system.
The bill overwhelmingly passed the House Judiciary Committee earlier this week and will next move on to consideration by the full state House.
