Peter C. Abernethy, a security specialist for Target Corporation, died prematurely and unexpectedly at the age of 50 on April 24, 2021. He suffered cardiac arrest at home. Pete, a resident of Venice, FL, originally of Allison Park and Butler had recently celebrated four years of sobriety and was living a happy, healthy life with his fiancé, Laura Anderson and their two cats.
In addition to Ms. Anderson, Pete is survived by his loving parents Christopher and Elizabeth Abernethy of Sarasota, FL; his sister, Brooke Braun, of Charlottesville, Va, her husband, Adrian, and two adoring nephews, Maxon and Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Mary Jean Young. Pete is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pete was a graduate of Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Pete had an unending sense of humor and was always up for an adventure. In his free time, he was a voracious reader and enjoyed long days on the beach. He was deeply committed to living life one moment at a time and advocated tirelessly for his friends and family to slow down, take good care of themselves, and focus on what really matters.
The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pete’s name to the Butler Hospital Foundation’s Recovery Club. Donations can be submitted online at www.butlerhealthsystem.org
