The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 8-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals last night and were swept in the short two-game series. Pirate starting pitcher Trevor Cahill left the game after just 37 pitches with a leg injury. The Bucs fell behind 6-0 in the first two innings of the game, before mounting a comeback that fell short.
Gregory Polanco hit his fourth home run of the season. He had two hits and drove in three. Adam Frazier and Kevin Newman added two hits.
The Bucs have moved on to Atlanta and will open a four-game series tonight at 7:20pm. Wil Crowe will start for the Pirates.
One of the Pirates top outfield prospects, Travis Swaggerty was injured diving into a base Tuesday and has suffered a shoulder injury. Swaggerty was the 2018 first pick of the Pirates and had three home runs and seven RBI’s so far at Triple-A Indianapolis.
Corey Kluber of the New York Yankees tossed the sixth no-hitter of the Major League Baseball season last night against the Texas Rangers. Kluber was a third inning walk away from a perfect game. The two-time Cy Young Award winner struck out nine. There have never been this many no-hitters this early in a season in baseball history.
