Frederick “Fritz” Freiters, 96, of Rattigan Rd., Chicora, Donegal Twp., went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, June 9, 2021 at Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital, Kittanning.
Frederick was born in Parker Twp., Butler Co., on June 11, 1924. He was the son of the late Henry and Anna B. Otto Freiters.
He attended school in Fredericksburg, near Petrolia. Fritz was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an Army medic and served in The Battle of Metz in Metz, France. Under heavy enemy fire, Fritz rendered lifesaving first aid to many of his wounded comrades. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Parker and the American Legion Post at Brady’s Bend.
He retired from the former Kopper’s Company in Petrolia. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. Fritz enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing and dancing, and “fighting and teasing” with the grandkids and great grandkids. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Donna J. “Sis” Craig Freiters, whom he married he married at the First English Lutheran Church in Chicora on July 17, 1948. The couple was looking forward to celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary this summer. Also surviving are five children, Jennifer N. Maley of Butler, Fredericka “Freddie” L. Painter and her husband, Daniel, of Merle’s Inlet, SC, Kevin D. Freiters and his wife, Beverly, of Dubois, George A. Freiters and his wife, Deborah, of Bruin, and Tracy L. Stivason and her husband, Karl, of Chicora; 22 grandchildren and their spouses, 21 great grandchildren and their spouses, one great great grandson, and Fritz was looking forward to the arrival of his 22nd great grandchild; a brother, Charles A. Freiters of Chicora, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Maley; his siblings, Bertha Jane Freiters, Barbara H. McCollough, Henry W. Jr., Ludwig, and Arnold H. Freiters, as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 Wednesday and from 9 – 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Rd., Chicora where a funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. with church pastor, Rev. Joseph Boomhower, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chicora. Military honors will be accorded at the church by members of the Chicora and Brady’s Bend American Legion Posts. Memorial contributions in Mr. Freiter’s memory may be made to any veterans charity.
