Moraine State Park has a new specialized dock thanks to the latest Leadership Butler County class.
The installation of the new dock designed for people with mobility issues happened Saturday morning on the South Shore at the Pleasant Valley Boat Ramp.
Mikayla Moretti, director of grants and special events for BC3, is a member of the class of 2020 Leadership team and said her group was really excited to finally install the new dock.
“This was supposed to be in last year, and we were going to tie in to the Moraine 50th anniversary. Obviously it didn’t work out that way, but we’ll still be at the Regatta this year,” Moretti said.
In addition to the dock, the group put a new handicap parking area in along with site beautification. Overall the cost was $50,000, but typical fundraising ideas had to change according to Moretti.
“Even though our class was put on hold, we have been fundraising the whole time,” Moretti said. “We have had to get creative because obviously we couldn’t do a lot of in-person events.”
Moretti said an online raffle was held last spring and summer that generated around $20,000. She said they also did a corporate sponsorship program and a murder mystery dinner which accounted for another $20,000.
She added that since the class was extended another year, Leadership Butler County currently is holding an online raffle in support of fundraising for the dock. You can learn more about that raffle here.
