It’s the 80th anniversary of WISR 680 AM, and a celebration will be held this weekend that includes live music.
The anniversary party will be held this Sunday at Missing Links Brewery on Evans City Road from 1-6 p.m.
It will be highlighted by a performance of the Malt and Hops Big Band—which includes Seneca Valley music teacher Bob Manchett.
“In the beer industry, they say buy local, buy fresh. Well, it’s the same thing here for our big band, most players in the Malt and Hops Big Band either live in Butler County or have a tie to Butler County,” Matchett said.
Overall, there’s around 17 to 18 members of the big band.
Director of the Butler Golden Tornado Marching Band Jeff Kroner is also a part of the big band, and lays out what people can expect.
“You’re going to hear a lot of the old standards, the In The Mood, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and hear some contemporary music. But, it’s all that saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and rhythm sections that people just love,” Kroner said.
The Malt and Hops Big Band performs from 2-5 p.m. There will also be prizes and Missing Links will be running specials. Also, in case of inclement weather, a 40×60 tent will be on-site for the audience.
