Mary Lou Pepper, 78, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania left our earth September 2, 2021. Mary Lou was born in Butler, the daughter of former Butler Mayor Harry F. Pepper and Clarice Pepper. She graduated from Butler High School in 1960 and achieved her first degree in 1962 from Mount Aloysius College.
Mary Lou was best known as owner and operator of Peppers Flowers, a family business started by her parents in Butler in 1941. In 1998, she earned an Associate’s Degree as a Registered Nurse from Butler County Community College and started her nursing career at Butler Memorial Hospital. At age 63, she joined the travel nurse program working in California, Arizona, South Carolina, Mississippi, Wyoming and Florida. She retired in 2013 from the now UF Health Leesburg Hospital in Leesburg, FL.
Mary Lou enjoyed crossword puzzles, charades, and trivia games. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was widely known for her St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Surviving are her niece Christine Pepper and nephew Harry Pepper. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harry Pepper, Jr. and long-time companion Robert W. Domhoff (July 26, 2020).
Mary Lou has donated her body for the benefit of medical science.
