State fire officials are taking time this week to spread the word about the fall forest fire season.
Leaders say despite some of the heavy rain that we’ve received this summer, the state still is vulnerable to forest fires this season.
Mike Kern of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources also adds that many of these fires are preventable.
“In Pennsylvania almost 99 percent of all wildfires are caused by humans. That means that most of those fires are probably preventable,” Kern said. “They’re often unintentional accidents, but if we start to look at the causes those incidents could have been prevented.”
National Fire Safety Week begins this upcoming Sunday.
