It was championship weekend for the WPIAL in volleyball and soccer, and Butler County was well represented. The schools also took home a lot of hardware.
In soccer, the Seneca Valley boys repeated as 4A champions with a 3-1 win over Peters Township. Senior forward Nathan Prex continued his playoff hot streak, registering two goals for the Raiders. Seneca Valley has won three WPIAL titles now in the last four years.
Mars Girls soccer also continued their undefeated run with a 2-1 win over Plum securing a 3A girls championship for the third straight year. Goals from Piper Coffield and Ainsley Ray propelled the Planets to another title.
Meanwhile in girls volleyball, North Catholic won its third title in the last four years with a 3-1 win over Avonworth. The top-seeded Trojans were led by Katie McNelly who had 16 kills and Allison Feczko had 15. Freeport took on Hampton in the 3A championship after moving up classifications this year. But, the jump proved to be no issue for the Yellow Jackets, who defeated the Talbots 3-1. It’s the sixth WPIAL championship for Freeport’s volleyball program.
North Allegheny girls volleyball clinched the 4A title with a 3-2 win over Shaler.
