The Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. It was the Pens their fourth consecutive loss. The Pens fell despite having 47 shots on goal. The Caps scored the game-winner with under a minute remaining in the extra period. Tristan Jarry stopped 28 of 32 shots in goal for the Penguins.
Bryan Rust scored twice for the Penguins. He now has 14 goals this season and Tuesday was named the NHL’s third star of the month. Evgeni Malkin scored his fifth of the season.
The Pens are off for the NHL All-Star break until next Tuesday. They enter the break two points out of first place in the Metropolitan Division.
The NHL All-Star game will be played Saturday in Las Vegas. Jake Guentzel and Tristan Jarry will be the Penguins representatives at the game.
