With Law Awareness Week coming to an end, PennDOT and the state police are reminding drivers how important it is to obey traffic laws.
The urging comes as fatal accidents jumped in the Keystone State last year.
“In the first nine months of 2021, traffic fatalities rose an alarming 12 percent over 2020 rates nationwide. In Pennsylvania, our 2021 preliminary data shows that deaths on our roadways increased 10 percent,” Melissa Batula, acting deputy secretary of PennDOT said.
She says there were increases in fatalities for teen drivers, distracted driving, speeding, and those who didn’t wear seatbelts.
She says safe driving is paramount in reducing fatalities and urges all drivers to be careful and follow laws.
