A longtime church in Downtown Butler has closed but members continue to give back to the community through a Legacy Plan.
Grace @ Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church on the Diamond held their last service on February 27th.
The process to liquidate assets has resulted in a large amount of money that the Church Council has chosen to distribute to several sources including the City of Butler.
Thursday night Church Council President Jim Thompson delivered a check for $30,000 to Butler City Council with the request that it be used to benefit local kids through needs in the Parks and Recreation Department.
Other money has been donated to charities that help with clean water in third world countries and will be donated to St. Vincent DePaul as well as Camp Lutherlyn.
Grace @ Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church had been open in Butler for 131 years and the facility has been sold to Glade Run Lutheran Services.
