A Butler City Councilman has passed away.
Councilman Mike Walter died late Sunday at a Pittsburgh hospital as a result of a heart condition.
Walter was elected to his first term on Council in 2015 and served as Director of Accounts and Finance into his second term in 2019 before transitioning to the streets department earlier this year.
Mayor Bob Dandoy says he really enjoyed working on council with Walter.
“I really looked to Mike for counsel and advisement when I took office as mayor. He was somebody that I really like to bounce ideas off of. We developed a really good working relationship over the past two years and I was really looking forward to doing a lot of good things with him,” Dandoy said.
Dandoy also said that Walter was committed to seeing Butler thrive.
“I think the biggest thing you can say about him is that he genuinely cared about Butler and the people of Butler. He just wanted this to be a better place and he worked very, very hard to do it and be very dedicated to doing it. I’m certainly going to miss his counsel and his friendship, because we did become very good friends,” Dandoy said.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Thompson Miller Funeral Home with visitation planned for Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. Mike Walter was 74 years old.
