The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals 5-3 Sunday and took their first series of the season. The victory also improved the Pirates record to 5-4 this season. The Bucs came back from a 3-0 deficit, scoring five unanswered runs in the game. Michael Chavis and Ben Gamel led the Pirates with two hits each and three Pirate relievers tossed four scoreless innings. David Bednar earned his first save of the season.
