The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 last night behind the pitching of reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes. Burnes allowed just two runs on four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 10.
Despite allowing just seven home runs all of last season, he did allow the Pirates runs on round-trippers.
Pirates starter JT Brubaker allowed four runs in the second inning, but only two were earned. He gave up two hits over five innings, striking out six.
Roansy Contreras pitched the final three innings in relief. Contreras gave up a solo home run in the seventh, but allowed just that one hit. He did not walk a batter and struck out five.
The Pirates bullpen has recorded all five of their victories this season. Their bullpen currently has the fifth-lowest ERA in the National League.
The Bucs will try to avoid a Brewers sweep this afternoon at 1:40pm. WISR pre-game begins at 1:15pm. Mitch Keller will make his third start of the season. He is currently 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA.
