The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 12-8 to the Milwaukee Brewers last night at PNC Park. Mitch Keller started for the Bucs and allowed four earned runs over 4-2/3rds innings. The Pirates bullpen allowed eight runs in relief of Keller. The Brewers broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning.
Willie Adames hit two home runs and drove in seven for Milwaukee. Ke’Bryan Hayes went 3-for-3 for the Pirates. Daniel Vogelbach and Kevin Newman had two hits each.
The Bucs are now 0-4 against the Brewers this season. The two teams play again tonight at 6:35pm. WISR pre-game begins at 6:10pm.
The Pirates played without Bryan Reynolds and Cole Tucker, who were both placed on the COVID list before the game. The team brought up outfielder Jack Suwinski and infielder Tupita Marcano from Double-A Altoona to replace Reynolds and Tucker on the roster. Suwinski started in right field, and had his first major league hit.
Major League Baseball and the players association has agreed to allow teams to have an extra pitcher for the month of May. The two sides announced Tuesday that teams can carry as many as 14 pitchers from May 2nd thru the 29th. The move is the result of the shortened spring training following the owner’s lockout.
