With the primary election now a week away, our newsroom will be highlighting some contested primaries in both parties.
The newly drawn 16th Congressional District has two Democrats running for a chance to face current Republican Congressman Mike Kelly.
Erie County businessman Dan Pastore says he’s running because he believes voters have become disillusioned with Washington.
“The people I talk to tell me they can’t even listen to politicians in Washington anymore because they are so disillusioned with what they hear,” Pastore said. “They tell me the system is broken and I agree with them. But, I think we can do better.”
Rick Telesz is also seeking the Democratic nomination. He’s a farmer from Lawrence County who says there’s one big reason he got into the race.
“It’s pretty simple. I can sum it up with one name, Mike Kelly. What he did after the election and January 6th is to me, and I’m not one to be politically correct, I think that was just a plain act of treason. And it scared me for the future of my kids and grandkids,” Telesz said.
