A new bill proposed by a local lawmaker would help those planning to haul heavy loads.
State Senator Scott Hutchinson’s Senate Bill 1171 addresses current heavy hauling permits that needlessly restrict the number of axles a tractor trailer can use to haul specific amounts of pulpwood or wood chips.
In allowing permit holders the option to use equipment with additional axles if the load meets the weight criteria of the permit, Hutchinson maintains that haulers will have more breaking power to improve safety. Wear and tear would also be lessened on road surfaces and bridges.
After passing the Senate, this bill next advances to the state House of Representatives for consideration and vote.
