The Washington Nationals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 last night, handing the Bucs their fifth consecutive loss. The Nationals scored two runs in the eighth inning to take the victory. Jose Quintana started for the Pirates and allowed just one run on four hits over his six innings of work. Wil Crowe pitched the final two innings and took the loss. The Pirates lone run was a solo home run by Diego Castillo in the sixth inning. The Pirates lead baseball with 26 home runs from rookie players.
The Bucs and Nationals close their series today at 1:05pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 12:40pm.
The Pirates return home after the game to host the Milwaukee Brewers for four games at PNC Park beginning tomorrow night. The Pirates will have an off-day on July 4th, then will host the New York Yankees for two games.
