Butler County Commissioners are beginning the process of recounting a select number of ballots from the 2020 election.
At yesterday’s public meeting, the commissioners said they were going to select three random precincts in the county to recount. The precincts were separated into three categories based on the number of voters.
Ultimately, Middlesex South, Donegal Township, and Butler City 4-1 were chosen out of three bags by a Boy Scout who was at the meeting to earn a badge.
The commissioners said the election staff will do both a hand recount and rescan the entire ballots to compare them to the results of the 2020 election—a move they say is above and beyond any other county’s auditing procedures.
The commissioners would like to explore how long the hand counting process will take, as there have been calls from some citizens for the county to tabulate election results exclusively by hand.
The date and time of the recount is still to be determined.
