Department of Justice officials say a neighboring county is now considered a high drug trafficking area.
Lawrence County was recently designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area by the White House’s National Drug Control Policy. They specifically mentioned the distribution of methamphetamine as a serious problem in the region.
They say the county is currently being used for large-scale distribution of controlled substances due to its “network of highways and interstates.”
Officials say the designation will allow resources and support to come to the county to help disrupt drug trafficking designations.
