Catalytic converter thefts are on the rise across the country according to AAA.
The travel agency says the crimes spiked during the height of the pandemic, but they are seeing another rise in thefts.
The catalytic converters are popular to thieves because they can be sold for hundreds of dollars to scrap yards on online buyers.
They offer a few recommendations to lessen the chance of a theft:
- Park in a closed garage at your house.
- Have the catalytic converter welded to your car’s frame.
- Consider engraving your VIN number on the converter.
- Calibrate your car’s alarm to detect vibrations.
