On Monday August 29, 2022, Cpt. Charles E. Calahan, USA/Ret., formerly of Center Township, died in Tyler, Texas from injuries sustained from a car accident.
He was born January 6, 1928 in Green Tree, PA, the son of the late Elmer Ellsworth and Bernice (Bennington) Calahan.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda in 2009 and two brothers; Bradley and Howard. He is survived by his sister, Penny Transue of Kingman, AZ and one son and two daughters. Charles and Gilda have three children, Charles A. Calahan, PHD (Nancy) of West Lafayette, IN, Suzan L. Johns (Dr. James W.) of Ephrata, PA and Linda G. Gallia (Dwayne) of Quitman, TX. They have seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Charles was retired from Marmon/Keystone as a Semi-Driver. He was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Wars. He graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and several U.S. Army schools.
Charles was a dedicated member of the Church of God, life member of the VFW Post # 249, and a life member of the 112th Inf. Regt. Association. Charles also held membership in the Christopher Gist Chapter Pennsylvania Society, Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, National Genealogical Society, Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society and Welsh Glamorgan Family History Society.
Visitation will be at the Young Funeral Home, Butler, on Friday, September 9, 2022 from 6PM -8PM.
His son-in-law, Dr. Jim Johns, DMD of the Church of God ,Central, PA will conduct services to be held at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, PA on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10 AM.
Military honors will be held at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
